Electronic Engineering is one of the largest and fastest growing fields of engineering. It covers a wide range of applications which make our life easier and enjoyable. Television, Radio, Cell phones, Virtual Reality, GPS, The Internet, Fiber Optic Communication, Computers – all these technologies were made possible because of the enormous power and versatility of electronic engineering. They helps us to see, hear and communicate over vast distances and do things faster. Electronics has a major role in improving productivity in industries like oil, energy, agriculture. In steel, petroleum and chemical industries it is the electronic devices that direct, control and test production processes. Health care industry depend on electronic instruments to perform chemical tests and to check body functions. The safety in transportation, factories and mines and in homes rely heavily on electronics.

NATURE OF WORK

An Electronic Engineer should find new solutions to the practical problems affecting our daily lives. An electronic engineer will work in team with other specialists to design, fabricate, produce, test and supervise the manufacture of complex products and systems i.e. electronic equipment and components for a number of industries including hospitals, computer industry, electronic data processing systems for communication and in defense etc. They supervise production and manufacturing processes and oversee installation and maintenance.

SCOPE

Electronic gadgets, devices & systems are so interwoven in socio-economic fabric of nation that it is difficult to survive without having adequate human resources trained in the field of Electronic Engineering. Even other disciplines of engineering are considered incomplete without the integration of relevant electronic systems and devices. The modern high speed computers, automation and telecommunication systems have transformed our living patterns. It has not only extended human facilities but has resulted in cultural innovation. Thus it is the imperative need of time to direct our efforts, time and resources to impart latest knowledge, skills and practical training in the field of Electronic Engineering.

Electronic engineering is a constantly changing and widening branch of the engineering profession. Increased production and demand by government and businesses for communication equipment, computers and military electronics along with consumer demand and increased research and development on robots and other types of automation contributes to the growth of employment opportunities in the field. Continual advances in electronic engineering in the areas of materials, processes, devices, and circuits have been leading to rapid advances, in the existing applications of engineering as well as in the emergence of new applications.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES

There is an excellent opportunity for advancement for electronic engineers, especially for those who keep abreast with the rapid changes in technology and new inventions. Electronic engineers can get jobs in Federal Government, Provincial Governments and their sponsored corporations in public enterprises and the private organizations like Radio, Telephone Industries, Civil Aviation, Pakistan Railways, Atomic Energy Commission. Electronic engineers are also absorbed into the entertainment transmission industry, research establishments, and defense. They can also take up teaching and research in engineering Institutions. They can start their own business by manufacture electronic parts, goods and components. They can also start a repair or assembly shop for television receivers, amplifiers, recording equipment etc. Since electronics is a labor intensive and talent-oriented field, it gives high returns for a given initial investment.
